Lux Aeterna Virtual Choir Project in Memory of Carol Buschmann
To honor and make tribute in memory of our late accompanist, Carol Buschmann, I am asking present and past members of Northwest Chorale to participate in putting together a Virtual Choir performance of the "Lux Aeterna" movement from John Rutter’s "Requiem."" To participate in this Virtual Choir project, you will need to install a free music program called MuseScore 3 on your computer, and then open and use a file in MuseScore to record your performance of the "Lux Aeterna."
Read these instructions for all the information you need to successfully participate in this project. This document will lead you through the installation of the MuseScore software, help you to familiarize yourself with using it to play the file which will serve as accompaniment, and then guide you through making a personal recording of your part. If you choose to participate in this project, we recommend that you download and print this document so that you have it available for reference whenever you need it.
Virtual Choir Project Timeline
- Current: Install MuseScore 3 on your computer, following the instructions. A MuseScore file of "Lux Aeterna" was sent to you in email - if you didn't receive this, you can also download the "Lux Aeterna" file using this link. The instructions will help you learn to use MuseScore to play back the file.
- January 2021: Use the entire month to rehearse your part until you are comfortable with singing along with the "Lux Aeterna" file. Rehearse as many times as you need to be completely comfortable singing along with the file, in order to make a good personal recording.
- January 2021: Find a voice recorder and become comfortable with recording your voice and saving files. This recorder could be on your phone or on your computer. We recommend a phone-based recorder because it will be the most straightforward way to make a personal recording that includes both your voice and the accompaniment tracks in the "Lux Aeterna" file.
- Early February 2021: make your personal recording. You may need to make multiple recordings until you have one you are satisfied with.
- February 14, 2021: final deadline for submitting your personal recording.
Once all the recordings are submitted, they will be combined into a single recording which will then be posted on the Northwest Chorale website. You will receive an email when the completed recording is available.
We hope you will take part in this Virtual Choir project to honor Carol Buschmann for her giving 20 plus years, making all of us not only better musicians but better people. As singers, this has been a tough year for those of us who love to sing and to sing together as a choir, and it’s hard to say when we will be able to do so once again. We hope that this opportunity to sing with your Northwest Chorale compatriots, even in a virtual way, will be a worthy memorial for Carol and bring you some of that joy of singing we all have been missing.
Have questions about the project? Please contact Lynn.
